In partnership with the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and sector stakeholders, Lewis funded the development of a national Biodiversity Human Capital Development Strategy (BHCDS) in 2010. As South Africa grapples with the complexities of implementing a just transition to a low carbon, nature-based economy, this 20-year strategy is aimed at producing specialist, research and management skills for all organisations with biodiversity mandates, objectives, interest or impact, in the context of the need for social transformation, and creating opportunities for growth and employment.
